Histórico: MTV dio a conocer las nominaciones a los Premios MTV VMA 2023 y por primera vez todas las candidatas a Artista del Año son mujeres.
Taylor Swift, quien se encuentra aún realizando una exitosa gira de shows alrededor del mundo, lidera los premios abarcando un total de ocho nominaciones, seguida por SZA con seis. Miley Cyrus, Olivia Rodrigo, Kim Petras, Doja Cat, Nicki Minaj y Sam Smith aspiran a cinco estatuillas, mientras que Shakira y Diddy van por cuatro.
El condimento especial de esta edición está centrada en la categoría de Artista del año, que por primera vez en la historia se disputa con pleno de mujeres: Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Doja Cat, Karol G, Nicki Minaj y Shakira.
